Dan Mangan and Blue Rodeo

I dove headfirst into event work and began prepping for the first concert series of the summer. This concert weekend was the perfect way to kick off my new position as Events Manager and it was a great welcoming to Sun Peaks. BC folks might be some of the best....following East Coasters of course ;)

Cool Vibes
Friday night during the Dan Mangan concert, we didn't see as big of a crowd as we did for Blue Rodeo on Saturday, but the fans who turned up braved the rain and were some of the best fans I have seen.

Here is a small clip of Dan Mangan getting close and personal with people of Sun Peaks. The nasty rain chased away most of the crowd, but the ones who braved it, are glad they did!

The Band
These guys were on my mixed tapes back when I owned a walkman....yes, i typed walkman. But too meet them and see them perform only a few feet away...1000x better.

Success
Can't take credit for this picture... but every so often I would have to turn around and just look back at this. That's a lot of friggin people. We expected about 6,000 peeps and turns out the count was closer to 7,000.

Kayaking on McGillivray Lake

JULY 14th
KAYAKING McGILLIVRAY LAKE

Started my week off with a paddle session.
Mondays aren't that bad :)

Spotted an eagle who I'm pretty sure was licking his lips...err.. beak? He looked angry.. and hungry... not a good combo for a white girl on a Kayak.

Couldn't get enough, and did not want to get off the lake. Although...the jumping fish changed my mind.

Cows!!! Running around.. well.... just chompin on grass up on the mountain

First Couple Weeks!

So I might not actually climb mountains...yet...but I have taken a few steel birds across the country to a little village in the mountains of BC. There is no way that I could go through this next year without capturing it. I have been on the go non stop so I'm sorry if this first post seems a little boring, but I need to give everybody an update on whats been going on!

JULY 24th
FIRST DAY!
My first day in Sun Peaks, I took a long walk and got to see where I will be living for the next little while, and I have fallen in love with this place already. It is beautiful here and so are the people.

Its pretty easy to call this place home!
:)

JULY 25th
FIRST DAY ON THE JOB

My very first day on the job, I took tour of what is essentially my backyard via Segway. It was terrifying and fun at the same time. I passed the crash course and then it was on to an hour long trail ride around the village. So fun!

Later that day, I went and had a Paddleboard lesson with Paddle Surfit at Heffley Lake which is about halfway from Kamloops to Sun Peaks. It was an awesome way to end the day and I was able to cross it off of my bucket list!

JUNE 27th & 28th
SUMMER KICK-OFF EVENT

My first week of work, we dove right in to preparation for the first event weekend. The Summer Kick-Off Event took place Friday- Saturday, and it was a great way to get familiar with everything. To kick off the weekend we celebrated the opening of the Sunburst Chairlift. We had a huge line of mountain bikers who were lined up at the gate waiting to hit the trails.

This lady did some amazing work face painting!                      Lumberjack show!

Live music entertainment : Team Hewitt
Awesome duo. You would think it was an 8 man band.

I don't have any pictures of this, but we also had The Mountain of Beer and Chili Cook Off Competition. Restaurants in the village competed to see who had the best chili and who served the best beer. I'm still full.

JULY 1ST
CANADA DAY CELEBRATIONS @ RIVERSIDE PARK

I can now say that I have danced around in a mascot costume. My initiation into Tourism Sun Peaks was to walk around Riverside Park in Kamloops as Harry the Bear; The Sun Peaks Resort mascot. Not only was this costume huge, but it was one of the hottest days yet. Aside from sweating on the inside, on the outside I was the friendliest/most terrifying bear at the event. It was a pretty cool feeling being part of the entertainment, but more importantly representing Tourism Sun Peaks at one of the busiest events of the year.

(This little guy followed me around all day - just the cutest)

After spending a few hour walking around in the heat, I was able to relax with good company and a couple cold drinks :)

JULY 3rd
NEW CONDO!

Finally! I'm all moved in and it is the best feeling ever. It might be small, but thats what I love about it. Its the perfect size, and it has an awesome view of the mountain. I can sit on my balcony and take in the view every night, and if i'm lucky, I can see bear cubs rolling around on the ski hill. Pretty darn neat if you ask me.
