The Stanley Cup comes to Sun Peaks!

Even though the cup was carried in by the coach of the LA Kings, it was a pretty cool to have it sitting on the patio of the Sun Burst Lodge in Sun Peaks. Hopefully the next time I see this bad boy, Calgary will be taking it up the chairlift.... #itcouldhappen...

Sup Tod

That moment when you trust your boyfriend is leading the way, and then you realize he's leading you on the most expert level trail on the mountain.....

This day was a 'spur of the moment' type day. Geoff and I started out on what was supposed to be a short ride up the chair lift ... but instead, turned into  a trek up tot he peak of Tod Mountain... which is the HIGHEST of all three peaks. The views from the top were unreal, and we ran into some friends as you can see... so i'd be lying if I said i didn't have a great day.

Mile High Wine Tasting @ Silver Star Resort

One of the biggest and most well known event in Sun Peaks, is the Okanagan Winter Wine Festival that happens in January each year. The festival lasts 10 days, and each day there are wine tasting events located at different venues throughout the village. Planning for each year begins the day after the festival is complete, so needless to say my days are spent preparing for January.

Tourism Sun Peaks and Okanagan Wine Festivals Society team up to take on the festival each year, and over this summer, OWFS invited me to check out the Mile High Wine Tasting event which took place at Silver Star Resort located in Vernon.

Wildflowers

WILDFLOWERS
=======================================================================

After getting settled in with everything and on somewhat of a schedule, I had to make time to take my first chairlift ride up the mountain and see the famous wildflowers. I am glad i did, because these flowers do not last long, and only a couple weeks after, they began to die down.

What should've taken me 45 minutes, took me 3.5 hours. During my hike, I decided to take a few detours and explore my new backyard.

 SO! Now you can probably understand why I took so many extra trails. It was one of the nicest hikes I have ever done. Not to mention... it smelled fantastic! Hard to sit inside and do nothing when you this landscape in your backyard...

Alpine Blossom Festival

AUGUST 1-3
ALPINE BLOSSOM FESTIVAL & THE DOODLEBOPS
========================================================================
A little classic rock, a little country, why not add in a little something for the ankle-biters? The Alpine Blossom Festival is held each year in Sun Peaks to celebrate the alpine wildflowers being in full bloom. (For pictures you can see them on the website, or my Wildflowers post to get an idea.) During this weekend there is always live music and entertainment as well as other family focused activities. This year the Doodlebops made an appearance in the village and as you can see, we had a great turn out! At 26 years old, I can say that even I was entertained.

Meeting this group before they hit the dressing room, you would never imagine that they are Doodlebops by day. These lovely humans were very fun to work with!

Shane Philip
This man may be the master of multi-tasking. All instruments you see in front of him, he would use most of them at once to produce sound. Closing your eyes, you would think that he's got a full band behind him. His sound is very unique, and almost impossible to explain, so I will include a link below. I will also mention that he is a HUGE fan of the GoPro and he had it with him each time I ran into him. The video below showcases his time spent in Sun Peaks. About 40 seconds in, you will see footage from the event set up, and a mini tour of the village where everything took place!

On Saturday night we held a movie outdoors, slope side. While Disney's Bears played on the big screen, we had a visit from Mr. Thunder and Lightning that made an appearance around the outskirts of the village. I don't know what show was more popular, the storm or the big screen...!

Country Fest w. Aaron Lines

 JULY 19-20
COUNTRY FEST ft. AARON LINES
---------------------------- --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Each picture that I managed to snap this weekend would make you think that we had PERFECT weather.Well...don't let these pictures fool you... We had rain pretty much all weekend... but when it came time for bands to go onstage, the sun was not shy! Even when we had light rain, people were out and ready to shake their groove thang.
=======================================================================

The River and the Road
To kick things off, we had music in the village throughout the weekend, and this band might have been my favourite band all weekend. If your curious.. take a quick listen:

..even if you're not that curious.. you should check them out anyways ;)

Event though I'm on the job, its more than entertaining to stand back, listen to the music and people  watch. You can't he;p but smile when you see everybody from little kiddies to the older folks dancin' their booties off.

During the only 5 minutes we had all weekend, it was cool to sit back and take in everything. You don't usually think about how much work goes into putting on a big concert weekend until you get first hand experience.

Dan Mangan and Blue Rodeo

I dove headfirst into event work and began prepping for the first concert series of the summer. This concert weekend was the perfect way to kick off my new position as Events Manager and it was a great welcoming to Sun Peaks. BC folks might be some of the best....following East Coasters of course ;)

Cool Vibes
Friday night during the Dan Mangan concert, we didn't see as big of a crowd as we did for Blue Rodeo on Saturday, but the fans who turned up braved the rain and were some of the best fans I have seen.

Here is a small clip of Dan Mangan getting close and personal with people of Sun Peaks. The nasty rain chased away most of the crowd, but the ones who braved it, are glad they did!

The Band
These guys were on my mixed tapes back when I owned a walkman....yes, i typed walkman. But too meet them and see them perform only a few feet away...1000x better.

Success
Can't take credit for this picture... but every so often I would have to turn around and just look back at this. That's a lot of friggin people. We expected about 6,000 peeps and turns out the count was closer to 7,000.
